"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude."
Maya Angelou

Hypnotherapy has been proven to be a safe and highly effective therapeutic technique for bringing about positive change, but for most of us our only exposure to Hypnosis is through the misleading world of Stage Hypnosis. It's therefore perfectly natural to have some initial worries and questions about Hypnsos; indeed the same questions crop up with each of my new clients, ranging from "will you make me cluck like a chicken?" to "will I remember anything?".

These misconceptions are perfectly natural and I have put together this page to let you know what to expect in our sessions together. So that we can work together in the best way possible, please make a note of any questions you have and I will answer them when you book your first session - and remember, there is no such thing as a silly question!

Hypnosis is not sleep or unconsciousness, around 90% of people report being aware of everything, although your mind may wander as is natural when you are deeply relaxed.

You cannot be hypnotised against your will – you are in control throughout your treatments and are actively involved. Hypnotherapy is a collaboration between me the therapist and you the client, so I cannot make you do anything you don't want to do and certainly cannot make you cluck like a chicken - unless you particularly want to!

Hypnosis is a totally safe and pleasant way of using naturally occurring psychological and physiological states to help you realise your goals.

I use Direct Suggestion techniques, in order to help you to experience certain ideas at a deep and profound level, to directly influence your emotions and behaviours. However, these suggestions will only be based on what we have discussed and you will therefore want to accept them.

You can expect to experience positive effects after only one treatment, and one of the main benefits of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is that it is designed to be a brief and highly efficient therapy. However, Hypnotherapy almost always requires more than one treatment* and the number of treatments will depend on the specifics of your symptoms and issue. To make treatments cost effective for you, we will discuss the expected length of your treatment program during our first session, regularly review your progress and set exercises to be completed outside of therapy, to enable you to reach your therapy goals more quickly.

* Smoking Cessation is usually managed as a single, extended session

As a conscientious therapist, I strive to continually update my techniques through regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD), taking yearly post grad courses to remain at the forefront of the profession. In addition, I read the latest research and texts on the subject and am a member of both the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) and the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH). As a member, I am bound by their codes of ethics and am fully committed to promoting the highest standards within the profession of Hypnotherapy.
